November 4: The Big Day

Day 178

IT'S OVER!

Whew. What a day. Even though Peter's surgery was pretty miner in the great scheme of things, surgery is still scary for parents...especially since he had to go under full anesthesia.

We had to stay in Kansas City last night because we had to check in at the hospital at 6 AM. We got checked in and checked out and by 7:30 AM our little man was in surgery.

Waiting to see the anesthesiologist.
Everything went great and Peter woke up quickly. We were on the road home by 11:30 AM and home by 4 PM. Peter received an injection which numbed the surgical area for about five hours, enough to last until we got home. He's doing so well and we are so RELIEVED! This is first time since before Peter was born that I haven't had anything to worry about and I am going to savor every worry-free second.

Hands down the best part of the trip was our stay at the Drury Inn. We love the Drury for it's 5:30 kickback in which you get a free dinner and three free drinks, but since I told the hotel we'd be staying there the night before Peter's surgery, they also gave us half price off our room, we didn't have to pay tax AND we got a bag of free snacks in the room. I love Drury hotels.

Another great part of the trip was getting to see my BFF Caroline and her newly-bearded husband. They visited us the night before the surgery since they live in the KC area. We were able to relax and laugh, which was a real mercy on such a nerve-wracking evening.

I'm purging a cashmere mock-turtle neck. Ordinarily I wouldn't purge a cashmere sweater, but this one makes me feel like I'm about to be strangled by a big itchy noose.
