My purge today is another donation from my husband, who is a collector of many things. One of his collections - one that I've never actually seen - is lighters, especially Zippos. This is a somewhat strange collection for someone who doesn't smoke, but it's all part of his charm. I think he likes lighters because he is fascinated by the idea that you can use friction to make fire. Yesterday we were having a conversation about how boys are attracted to mechanical things and he told me about his early obsession with TV remotes. He said he would turn the TV on and off as fast as he could with the remote to see how responsive it was. I can just see Clint as a little boy, utterly consumed with the remote until someone finally discovered that the remote was all screwed up because he'd pressed all the buttons in the wrong combination.
