January 30: 100 more days!

Day 265

I only have 100 days of purging left! Hip Hip Hooray!

Here's a fun-fact for you. Clint's mom recently brought up a box of Clint's blocks from when he was little. His dad had made them for Clint when he was about Peter's age. They're great blocks and Peter likes to chew on them. The funny thing is, many of these blocks are emblazoned with Clint's name. The funnier thing is that when I was little, I did the same thing. We had a small set of wooden, color blocks and I proudly wrote my name on some of them. Just another sign that we were destined to be together.

Petie, Petie fresh and sweetie.
I don't actually have a picture of today's purge but it is a book called 365 Saints. There's a short reflection on one year's worth of Saints. I grabbed it from work thinking it would be good, but I didn't get a lot out of the reflections.

January 29: Kansas Day!

Day 264

Happy birthday Kansas! Today you are 154 years old! You joined the Union in 1861 as a free state, much to the chagrin of neighboring Missouri. Your bird is the western meadowlark and your song is "Home on the Range." You take your name from the Kansa Tribe and it means "People of the South Wind." You were the home of Dwight Eisenhower, Russell Stover, and Emil Kapaun - who may soon become a Saint! You're a grand-old state Kansas...I just wish you'd make up with Missouri.

Today I'm purging a garlic press that my husband gave me two Christmases ago. I like the press, but I buy pre-minced garlic, so I never use this.

January 28: Can Opener

Day 263

I can honestly say that I've never had a can opener that works for more than a year. I bought this can opener when we moved into our house and about three or four months ago, it started going wonkey. I refuse to throw this away, so I'm purging it.

The other day, I came home from work and Clint had bought me a new can opener! I think he did it because he witnessed my meltdown one evening when I was trying to open a can of mandarins for Petie and the lid got stuck in three separate places. The new can opener is RITZY. It locks into place on the can and cuts like a dream.

January 27: Amen!

Day 262

When I go into a thrift store, I feel compelled to buy something, even when I don't really want anything from the store. Today's purge is the result of one of those trips to a thrift store, where nothing jumped out at me, so I bought something arbitrary.

In all fairness, I thought this game would be good for CCD, but it's mostly just hard to play.

January 26: Statement Necklace

Day 261

Have I ever mentioned my theory of why Tuesday is the worst day of the week? In my first job, my mantra was "if anything bad is going to happen, it will happen on a Tuesday." Today is not Tuesday, but here's my reasoning: Mondays are fine because it's the first day back at work or school and people are catching up. Wednesdays are the middle day of the week, so you know that after 12 PM (roughly), you're on the downhill slide. Thursdays are Friday-eve, and Fridays are Friday! (Weekends are omitted in this explanation for obvious reasons). That just leaves, boring old, early in the week Tuesdays. I guarantee you that Tuesday is the day that most people at work utter the words "It's only [Tuesday]!"

The whole reason I bring this up is because I have decided that January is the Tuesday of the year. This has been the longest, busiest, dreariest month I've ever experienced and I am so glad the end is in sight! Hurry up February!

My purge today is a statement necklace. Unfortunately it does not make the right statement when I wear it with mismatched sweaters and button-down shirts. Instead of saying "cool" is says "confused."

January 25: Maroon 5 (Pocket Pants)

Day 260

I bought these slacks from the thrift store, and they were brand new. However, they are too long and they do that thing where they sort of squinch you in the middle and made your body look horrible.

January 24: Little Free Petie

Day 259

There are these things called Little Free Libraries. They're like super-tiny, tiny houses that are erected in public areas where people can take and leave books as they please. The library erected one in a public park not long ago and we just purchased a second one to put at the public pool. Peter and Clint stopped by the library the other day and I thought that the Little Free Library was just the right size for Peter.

Today my purge is a sweater I bought with great intentions and poor results. It's just too bulky.

January 23: 11 Months Old!

Day 258

It's hard to believe that my little Petie-Pie is 11 months old today. The events of his birth are still so vivid, that they could have been last week!  I took the below picture last night. He ate some broccoli with dinner, which he loves!

My little broccoli face!
My purge today is one of Peter's books, it's bulky and strangely sized, so I'm purging it for practical reasons.

Janaury 22: Orange is the new orange

Day 257

Today I'm purging an orange sweater that I used to wear a lot, but which I don't wear very much anymore.

January 21: Rice Cooker

Day 256

My husband and I love our rice cooker, but it's a small one. Last week my husband and I went to WM to buy a larger rice cooker. ALL of the larger rice cookers were completely out of stock. My husband, being in a hurry to cook large quantities of rice, ordered a cooker online the next day for "ship to store." After some false alarms, we finally brought the cooker home today. We're purging the old one.

For dinner we had chicken, broccoli and rice...4 cups of rice.

January 20: Rattle

Day 255

Peter's never been into rattles, so there's no harm in purging this one.

January 19: Bath and Body Works

Day 254

The second part of my student's gift to me was a combo from Bath and Body Works - lotion and shower gel in the Japanese Cherry Blossom scent. I used to love this smell, but I don't use scented lotion or shower gel.

January 18: Mug

Day 253

For the first time in my four years of teaching CCD, one of my students gave me a present. The gifts are featured in today's post as well as tomorrow's post. Though I'm not going to keep the gifts, I am touched that a student actually gave me a present this year. I guess the saying "It's the thought that counts" is ture.

Do you want to build a snowman?

January 17: Bra

Day 252

I'm purging a bra today because it's old and no longer fits well.

Friday, January 16, 2015

January 16: Socks II

Day 251

These are the socks Petie received from the grab-bag. They will not fit him for a good handful of years, so I see no reason to save them until then.

Speaking of Petie, he's been so cute lately. If we put him down in the evening, he will diligently follow us around from room to room until we pick him up again. He's finally started to say "mama." He's only done it twice, but I have high hopes because he's said it to me both times. Finally, last night he did something that I call the "booty dance." He was laying on his tummy and he started to raise his butt up in the air over and over again. I think he was excited about some toy or something. It was super-cute.

January 15: Socks I

Day 250

Over Christmas, my MIL did a grab-bag for the kids and for the adults. Women and children received socks and the men received slippers. Clint, of course, loves his slippers, but I'm purging the other two pairs of socks we received. It's not that I don't like or appreciate the socks, they're just not something I need or that Petie needs.

These were the socks I drew from the grab-bag. I love socks, don't get me wrong, but these are the fuzzy, synthetic type of socks and they make my feet sweat.

January 14: Velvet Dress

Day 249

I bought this velvet babydoll dress before my film premiere because I thought I might wear it. It was only a dollar or two, but when I got it home it didn't fit right in the bust, so I never wore it. Oh well. Velvet is very in right now and I'm sure it will make someone happy.

January 13: Another Shirt

Day 248

A while back I went to a thrift store and they always have a rack full of 25 cent items. I loaded up and for some reason felt compelled to buy this forest green turtleneck. I never wear it.

January 12: Big Announcement!

Day 247

I am well aware that most of my readers are family members and my family members all already know my big surprise, but I don't care. Clint and I are expecting baby #2. My official due date is July 29, and since I know I'll be having another C-section, this baby will most likely be born in July! I'm eleven weeks along and today was my first prenatal appointment. Here's your first glimpse at Baby Bain!

The baby doesn't actually have a  Mr. Burns nose. That's either a hand or just a blip on the screen. The head is to the left. Sorry the image is a little blurry, I cropped it to take out my personal information and when I did I had to make the picture smaller.

Today I'm purging this floral shirt.

January 11: Another ugly Christmas sweatshirt?

Day 246

Okay, so last year I bought two ugly Christmas sweaters and this year I bought too more. I have a problem. I already purged one sweater earlier in December, so now I'm purging the other one that I bought last year. Panda's in a Christmas wonderland.

January 10: Jiggle and Bounce

Day 245

Once in a while the Peter's pediatrician will give us a book to encourage reading. This was the last installment. The book has little rhymes and songs that have motions for the baby to go through like rocking or bouncing. Peter is just too wiggly for a book like this. For me to read to him, he has to be on the ground - free to roam around and climb. Otherwise he's Mr. Fuss.

January 9: Dump Cakes

Day 244

This was a Christmas gift that I didn't return. Oh well. I'm going to purge it because the last thing I need in my life is more dessert.

January 8: Hydrangea Stationary

Day 243

I used to write a lot of letters. In junior high I think I wrote six letters a week to various pen pals. I still love writing letters, but unfortunately, I no longer have a lot of spare time. Petie loves to get into my card and stationary boxes, so I'm purging this one.

January 7: Hang 10

Day 242

When we were little, my brother and I loved the Donald Duck puzzles at my grandma's house. Sam liked the one of Donald on a rocket that said "Mars or Bust" and I preferred the one of Donald walking in on Huey, Dewey and Louie building an igloo out of ice cubes. When I saw this puzzle, I couldn't resist it.

January 6: Candle Lights

Day 241

Today I'm purging a strand of Christmas tree lights that are tiny candles that flicker. When I bought them at the thrift store, they didn't work, but Clint made them like new again. We didn't put them on the tree this year, so I guess I don't really need them.

January 5: Yikes!

Day 240

Yikes! I'm really far behind on my blog...again. I'm going to power through some posts.

My purge for today is a Santa stocking. Now that we all have our own proper stockings, I won't be needing this one anymore!

January 4: Blue Shoes

Day 239

Once upon a time, before I was married, I thought I would wear blue shoes in my wedding. I bought these for $8 at JC Penney. Guess what, I did not wear these.

January 3: Audio Book

Day 238

This is an old audiotape I listened to sometime in college. My car no longer has a tape deck, so I see no reason to keep it.

Peter has learned two things since being home. 1: Making a Big Mess!

2. Pulling up!

January 2: Free Sample

Day 237

Today my sister and I went shopping at the lake. We found some good deals and had a great day. Poor Clint is still sick at home.

Today I'm purging this bottle, which was given to me as a sample.

January 1: Happy New Year!

Day 236

Today is my uncle's annual chili dinner, which I haven't been to in years. He makes a cheese ball and chili and assorted relatives sit around and enjoy one last get together before the holidays end.

Clint seems to have come down with a sickness that involves the chills, cold sweats and an inability to get out of bed. Now I have another sickie on my hands.

Today I'm purging some Christmas tree candles, which I've donated back to my mother. She'd given them to me, but this year I decided I didn't have room for them.

December 31: New Year's Eve!

Day 235

We spent today driving to Missouri. We're both beat. I doubt we'll make it to midnight.

Today I'm purging a book called A Country Christmas, which I do not have a picture of. It was a short little book that really put me in the Christmas spirit. It's going back to my sister.

December 30: Bear Towel

Day 234

This hooded towel was a gift for Peter, but as you can see it's a bit too big for a baby.

December 29: Watchagot Stew

Day 233

Yet another book purge today. I bought this at a library book sale and have no desire to read it.

December 28: Card Games

Day 232

Today I'm purging a book of Clint's. Once again, he'd steadfastly refused to let me purge this book until he actually started looking through it...then he said "I hate this book."
